Fawcett envisions her paintings as "contemporary
realism". Her paintings depict her feelings about
the subject, not necessarily how she saw them. In
works with figures, the figures provide the
inspiration and much of the context for the
painting, but there is also color and mood that she
wants to explore. She infuses many of the paintings
with rich, vibrant colors.
Like many artists Fawcett's art has gone through
many changes in style and subject matter.
"Changing style is important to me. As I keep
working, changes happen on their own,
unconsciously, but they also come out of work
itself." When you look at the landscapes, still
life or paintings with figures you can see
Fawcett's fascination with color and light.
Her ideas for paintings are often generated from
real-life scenes but are interpreted and depicted
through imagination. For her, painting is more than
depicting real life.
Fawcett received her BS in Art Education from
Florida State University. After a short period of
teaching art in the public schools, Fawcett
transitioned to a career in fashion advertising.
She later managed retail properties for developers
in Seattle, Washington and subsequently in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1996 she moved to the
Eastern Shore of Virginia and began focusing on
fine art. Lois has taught workshops in drawing and
has served two consecutive terms (2000 through
2003) as President of the Eastern Shore Art
League.
